castle

The Silvers' castle is a towering stone building with hundreds of rooms and an endless maze of hallways and corridors. The ground floor has a large entrance hall and a dining hall directly in front of the main door. The guest rooms are on the second floor. The rooms belonging to the Silver nobles and royalty are located in the central tower, and the farther up you go the higher the rank of the Silver. The Morphlings do not live in the castle, but they are allowed to wander freely in most parts of it. Outside the castle are open fields, cobbled courtyards, colorful gardens, and training grounds.

morphling quarters

A tiny, run-down, wooden shack serves as the entrance to the Morphling Quarters; hardly a grand welcome, though at least it serves as a fair hint of what is to be found inside. Step in the small room to find a set of narrow stone steps leading down into darkness - at the end of the stairs is the room where all the Morphlings live. Well, at least sleep. Stone walls and earthen floors frame the spacious, low-ceilinged room filled with makeshift beds. It is very crowded, with little room to move about freely except for a small clearing in the center where a fire can be built and above which a hole to the sky lets in air. At the far end, a ragged curtain cuts off the main room from a pool-sized pond that they use for cleaning; the filtered water flows from a rock at one end, which keeps the pool clean.

acedia hollow

Decorated with brightly-colored rooftops and sparkling cobblestone plazas, Acedia Hollow provides a warm, fanciful atmosphere starkly contrasting that of the castle. It is the place the peasants call home away from the hustle and bustle of bureaucratic life. Short, pointed buildings line a main cobblestone street with little to no space in between. The many backroads that branch away from the heart of the Hollow lead to a few shop-owners' homes and are also lined with various vendors and individually-owned tea shops. Morphlings occasionally venture into Acedia Hollow but remain respectful to Silvers and refrain from entering certain establishments.

pine forest

The castle has open fields surrounding it, but ringing those fields is a large pine forest. The trees have dark green needles during the summer; dead, brown needles coat the forest floor in a soft carpet. At first there is enough space between the trees to let in sufficient sunlight, but the farther in you go the darker it gets. Other than the trees there isn't much vegetation, so not many animals can be found except for the occasional mouse-deer or giant-rabbit that wanders through. The Morphlings know the forest well, but most outsiders would find themselves hopelessly lost here.

windswept plains

Past the forest on the southern end of the Silvers' territory is a long stretch of open grassland. There are very few hills and only a few trees for shade. Large animals roam these lands, perfect for large hunting parties. The plains are an auburn sea; the yellow grass is tall, reaching the shoulders of average-sized wolves. It is usually quite hot here, but amazingly it sometimes snows in the winter - very rarely. This is where the Eastern packs do most of their hunting. Because it is so vast and prey so abundant, one would expect the other packs to try to hunt here; none would dare try, though, in fear of what the Silvers might do if they found out.

Board Information & Statistics

Board Description
silvers & morphlings
The rulers of the kingdom reside here, in the easternmost point of Ilisthmira. Though both the Silvers and the Morphlings call this place home, the Silvers are the true owners. The castle lies in the center of the land and is where both species live; the outskirts, such as the plains and the forest, are the hunting grounds. The Morphlings guard the borders while the Silvers live comfortably within the luxurious stone walls of their castle, hardly caring to leave except to hunt. Most outsiders are not admitted within the territory, except for the occasional diplomatic mission.
