you can tell me that it's human nature...
Some would say he was slacking off.
He wasn’t. He just hadn’t thought of a good excuse yet. Kleio stalked through the forests, moving quickly and aptly as he bounded on four legs. It was always freeing to slip back to his natural form. He would never get used to all the subtleties of humans, how frail the shape felt. His dark fur and small frame kept him safe as he weaved among the shadows, amber eyes focused forward. Only when the trees became sparse and crumbling stone architecture came into view did he slow down.
Kleio rarely left the castle walls. There wasn’t much need. Occasionally, he traveled with a few other Morphlings to the marketplace, and it was on one such occasion that he had stumbled upon a Shade selling human artifacts. Alleged human artifacts. His acquaintances had pulled him away and mocked him for his interest. When he returned to the castle, he asked Eris where one would get genuine human artifacts. This is where he was instructed to go.
It was all so strange. He walked slowly now, each paw step deliberate as he glanced about the ruins. Every detected noise or movement sent his fur on edge but he continued on. He ducked his head as he made his way through an archway, making room for the antlers that protruded from his wolf skull. A giveaway that he was a Morphling and a look he wore often. Kleio kept his head tilted and sniffed along the ground. It was almost too much to process, but he caught onto a particular scent and weaved his way among the ruins.
...to be too interlaced with danger
